ABOUT PETERS GENETICS
Peters Genetics is a family owned business specialising in Angus bull and Romney ram studs, commercial sheep and cattle breeding, in New Zealand. They've been supplying premium stock to farmers for more than fifty years, and now their operation spans across six farms in Southland, West and Central Otago.
Continuously they search to identify traits that will add value to the flock. Culling heavily to eliminate defects as they strive to achieve genetic perfection across all of their breeding programmes. They focus in equal measure on survivability, fertility, growth rates, yield grading, and quality wool. This same approach is applied to their cattle breeding operation.
When you buy stock from Peters Genetics, you’re getting a premium product that will minimise your labour and maximise your return on investment.

OUR HISTORY
‘Farming is in our blood, we’ve been at it that long.’ ~ Trevor Peters
Farming began for the Peters family in 1945, when Stanley Albert Peters purchased his first farm in Hedgehope, Southland, New Zealand. In 1961, Stanley and family moved to Waikaka. In 1975, his son Trevor and wife Karen, followed in his footsteps.
Trevor and Karen began their stud breeding career with Dorset Down, and later expanded into Suffolk sheep. In 1989 they moved to Clutha Downs, Beaumont Otago and in 1992 they joined forces with Derek and Chris Daniell forming part of New Zealand’s number one ram breeding operation, Wairere, which specialised in production of high performance Romney rams of Wairarapa genetics. The Peters portion of that business operated under the branding, Wairere South.
In 1993, Trevor began ram selling. He sold 230 rams in his first year. Since then he has built upon those results and now boasts one of the most successful ram breeding operations in New Zealand.
In 2012, after a successful twenty-year ram breeding and marketing partnership with the Daniells, Trevor and Karen made the decision to branch out independently so they could welcome their children into their farming enterprise. They re-branded as Peters Genetics, forming the company, The Peters Group.
The family, now in their third generation, have six farming operations across Otago and Southland. Their daughter, Justine, is farming in the North Island.
Peters Genetics farm more than 62,000 high performance stock units consisting of Peters Romneys, Hot Shot Terminals, commercial ewes, commercial cows, Peters Angus and deer. Collectively, the properties cover more than 9,000ha, on a mixture of easy to steep, rugged and climatically challenging terrain.
They have loyal clients all over the South Island who attribute their success to the quality of the stock being produced from their farms.
